Karen Millett qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1989, at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London. She is registered as a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) registration number 20226 and is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration number PYL18622.
On qualifying her first positions were working in the Adult Psychology Department, Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow Learning Disability Team and then the Department of Child Psychiatry at the Royal Free. This was in between having her own three children.
In 1999 she started working in Barnet CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) where she stayed for nearly 20 years as a Principal Clinical Psychologist. She now only works privately.
Karen has worked extensively with children, adolescents, parents and families. A main feature of her work includes working with young people presenting with emotional outbursts, anxiety, low mood, phobias and OCD. She also specialises in working with parents of the under 5s who are exhibiting behavioural problems and with parents whose children have ASD or ADHD.
Karen is trained in the specialist assessment of ASD, the ADOS and ADI. She has completed the Third Wave CBT training, which incorporates mindfulness, DBT, CFT and ACT. She has recently completed a specialist training in ACT and the Parts 1 and 2 of the EMDR training. She has supervised and trained many mental health professionals, trainees and qualified psychologists.
Karen was Chair of Governors at a local state primary school for 10 years, and spent some time on the Norwood Child Care Operations committee. She is currently advising Camp Simcha on extending their work to families where there is a child with a serious mental health difficulty.
